Dropbox is a web-based data service provider operated by Dropbox, Inc.. Dropbox uses a networked storage system that allows users to store and share data and files with other users on the Internet using a data synchronization. Dropbox was founded in 2007 by graduates of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Drew Houston and Arash Ferdowsi with initial capital obtained from Y Combinator.

Dropbox provides either free or paid services, each with varying benefits. In 2011 also launched Dropbox "Dropbox for Teams", a service of Dropbox is devoted to business groups or other groups who need services to administrative controls, centralized billing, and so forth. "Dropbox for Teams" remain available on the website, but the price offered is different from other Dropbox service.

When compared to other similar services, Dropbox offers a relatively large number of users, with the use of varying operating systems, both for desktop or mobile devices. There are different versions for different operating systems, including Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux (official or unofficial). And there is also a variety of versions for mobile devices, including Android, Windows Phone 7, iPhone, iPad, WebOS, and Blackberry, and web-based clients. Dropbox uses Freemium financial model and its free service provides 2 GB of free online storage.
